Music is like breathing

I've been singing since I could talk. I love it. Music is close to breathing for me. I'm pretty steady emotionally - roller coasters of feelings are not my thing. But on the piano, everything comes out. Everything.

The other day I shared with you all my secret place. Well, this is my other secret place...ok, it's not really secret. If there is a piano close in proximity...rest assured that I will find it...and play it!

I love to sing here

I love to just play here

I love to create here

All my emotions come out on the keys.

Every note can express so much

Yes, playing and singing is indeed very akin to breathing.

It is my soul's deep sigh.

What is like breathing to you?

I used to play piano and sing quite often, but unfortunately, it's not something I do anymore. I should consider taking that up again. I still love music very much, but these days, I mostly just appreciate the music that other people make.

By the way, your wedding ring is gorgeous!

I LOVE the piano. Took lessons for years, but somehow need more. Can't wait to teach my children. Music is indescibable to me. It reaches places nothing else can. Beautiful pictures.

I love this post oh so much! I play piano too, but not as much as I would like. I don't have one at home so I don't get to practice as much as I used to, and I get paranoid practicing at church because I don't want people to hear me since I'm so rusty. But YES - music is like breathing. I love being able to just sit at the piano, or even in my car with my favorite songs and belt it out. Or I can pull out my clarinet and play whatever is on the page - letting myself go.

I feel this way about theatre, and writing too. I'm in a play for the first time in years, and being up on that stage is like being home again. While I'm playing a character - I'm really being me. Or I've been working on creative writing again, and I love how the words can just flow from my fingers.

I'm the same way. I've been singing since I could talk I think! Goodness I don't know what I would do without it!
I took some piano lessons but never mastered it and couldn't afford to keep learning. I wish I could though!
I would love it if you might light to guest post for my feature "When Music Speaks" one day. I would love to hear your take on a favorite song of yours.
Beautiful post Jennifer!

I miss playing the piano so much! I took lessons for a couple of years when i was young and then again a couple years back but when times got tough we had to stop the lessons and give our piano back from our church( who we were borrowing the piano from ;) )

I'd love just to have a piano around the house again though. I love to just play.. I know enough now that if i had sheet music in front of my give me a couple hours and i could play the piece :)
MUsic is just such a amazing thing. I'm SO glad God has placed it in our lives :)

BTW you look BEAUTIFUL by the piano :)

One of my biggest regrets is not continuing piano lessons as a child. Now I lead worship on self-taught guitar and ache for the keys. I'm thinking about taking lessons again.

I feel the same way about singing. Yes, leading worship, practicing, etc. is one of the best things for me. I can't really play an instrument though, so you are lucky!

p.s. did you get your package from me in the mail? I didn't track it so I was just concerned that you haven't received it!

I would have to say I'm most at peace at a pottery wheel. : ) I wish I had my own, but maybe some day!

My brother is a worship pastor in Tacoma. One of my favorite things is being able to hear him lead worship!

i've thought recently about taking piano lessons. i'm in school, so i thought it'd be fun to do lessons of some sort. i took a year when i was little, then my teacher got pregnant and we never looked for another. :( i'm very jeal of those who can- it's amazing!

I so wish I had the ability to play piano. It's been my dream for forever! However, my method of "breathing" is writing. Just writing. It's magical.

I feel you girl. Did you write that song "Here and Now?" I love the words and would love to hear it! :)

I truly wish I could play the piano...other than Mary Had a Little Lamb. I'm not sure how you found my blog, but I'm so glad you did, because it led me to yours. I love it! Our passions are very similar. I can't wait to share your blog with one of my daughters who is in college, who plans to be a medical missionary.
Blessings to you!

I used to play the piano when I was little but have forgotten how to plan now. That is 1 thing I wish I could pick up again. My sis and mom got the singing ability in the family and though I can carry a tune...most days, I was given the instrumental abilities. Just haven't used them in far too many years.

Isn't it wonderful to have an outlet of expression? Writing has always been an outlet for me. Adding vocal harmony to a song, whether when leading worship or singing along with Grooveshark, is also wonderful. There is such a richness to harmony!
