This past weekend I was able to go home and visit my sweet family. While there, I had the honor of taking my precious sister's senior photos. She is a beautiful, talented young woman and I am proud of her! As I was pondering on the best place to do the shoot, Cumberland Island popped into my head. It had ruins, beaches, wild horses and beautiful Oak tress. Perfect. It was a bit of a drive but it was worth it. I don't have a fancy smancy camera, but a little creativity and a beautiful background goes a long way.
I am still editing some of her pictures, so I thought I'd share the story of our day with you all first.
Once in St. Mary's, we had to take a 45 minute ferry out to the island.
After we got off the ferry, we began the trek to the Dungeness ruins. They used to be a majestic home of the Carnegie's, but unfortunately a fire destroyed their beautiful home. However, it did provide a great backdrop for out little adventure.
Early in the day...we were still enthusiastic about walking so much.
When we walked up I got so incredibly excited. It was more beautiful and majestic than I had imagined.
The ruins were still so incredibly beautiful. I can only imagine what she looked like in her prime. It was fun to imagine what it might be like to be the mistress of such a grand place.
Just imagine us in big puffy dresses about to enter into a grand ball at this place back in the late 1800's. How fun would that be? I've always wanted to go to a ball. I suppose it's every little girl's dream.
Then the silliness commenced. I blame it on the heat.
After several hours we began the journey back to the dock. We were tired and hot...but we soldiered on.
I thought skipping might distract me from the heat.
But alas, it took my sister...
I failed to notice because I was busy navigating our way back to base.
Soon we were on our way again...we are troopers, yes we are.
Neither heat nor sweat can keep us down...well maybe a little...but not much.
At this moment, we realized that the ferry was leaving soon...so we had to start running.
We didn't want to get left behind. Not like the Christian series "Left Behind" but actually left on the island. We might end up Lost, not like the tv show...but just lost.
Sis tried to imitate that creepy Charmin commercial. "Enjoy the go" she said.
Finally we arrived back at the dock.
Our poor feet were so tired and dirty.
But Cumberland Island was good to us, despite what our tired and dirty feet told us. My only wish was that we had seen the wild horses. Alas!
Stay tuned for her senior pics....and the vlog!
