...A Day Without Shoes...

Tomorrow is a big day in the casa de Blair. We are taking part in TOMS "A Day Without Shoes" in order to raise awareness for children that go without shoes every single day. Many walk miles and miles to school barefoot. Can you imagine? Well, TOMS is doing something to change that. Not only do they give a pair of shoes to child in need for every pair purchased, they also host this event "A Day Without Shoes." What is really neat is that they don't just give them any kind of shoes. TOMS fits the needs of the children depending on the area. Check out the website to learn more.

"Shoes are a status symbol [in ethiopia]. Children dream of having their first pair." - Dr. Lary L. Thomas, Chairman of Tropical Health Alliance Foundation
We are excited about being able participate with TOMS in such a visible way! This is the first year that I've been involved and can't wait! It will be neat to see how it grows from here!

My husband's work place is having a t-shirt competition for this event. This past Thursday we stayed late to make our shirts. Here is Jonathan's:
Get it? I am bear-foot!

Here's mine:

Most of my participation will be after work...I sit behind a desk all day, so no one even sees my feet! However, I plan on doing lots of walking barefoot after 5. I really hope you participate with us tomorrow!

I like your shirt...the tree is nicely done!

I wish I could participate..I actually can't walk barefoot. It's way too painful for me and the dr. said I'm not allowed since some toes don't have feeling and I may step on something and not know it...yada yada, I'll be barefoot in spirit though. =)
Have a wonderful Monday!!

that is so awesome! i really admire toms for what they do. my hubs and i are currently collecting shoes (our goal is 400-500 pairs) to take down to guatemala in june. after seeing how many children are running around in dirty streets without anything on our feet, we knew there was not way we could go back without a ton of shoes in tow :)

I live in my pair of silver sparkly TOMS. They were an impulse purchase that probably wouldn't have happened if I had been persuaded by the fact that my impulse purchase meant shoes for someone who really needed them. Good for you guys, and your "bear" feet :)

Cool. I like your shirt a lot. I learned about TOMS last Christmas from my friend Jessica (I'm gifting her cd in my blogiversary giveaway.)She sang for their Christmas commercial.

The job came to her the day(s?) after she had a dream about children in Africa. Isn't that wild?
