You know you should take a break when...

...you head into work with your keys STILL in your car. The car is running. You didn't notice because you were thinking of all the stuff that needs to get done during the day.

It is 10:30 when a co-worker comes in your office to see if you were leaving to go somewhere soon...because your car is running.

You then promptly check your purse for your keys. They are not there. You run to the parking lot to find your car. Keys are intact in the ignition. The door is unlocked. No one stole your ipod...or anything else.

All is well with the car.

Your mind is not well though. It obviously has a problem.

Yes my friends, I did this today.

I've always been an extremely focused person. I can put my mind to something and accomplish it in a brief period of time. I can get a whole lot done during the day, but this strength has a pretty bad weakness to accompany it. My focus makes me oblivious to just about everything else except for what I'm working on. This causes me to do some pretty stupid things sometimes.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has done this or something of the like! I'm only 22 and I already have Alzheimer's. Great.

I think it's safe to say that I just need to relax and rest my mind for a while...yeah...

Be glad you don't live in Miami. That car would've been gone faster than you can say "bienvenidos a Miami". Lol.

That's pretty much hilarious and a definite sign to take a breather. I'm with you. Trust me. ;)

Oh yeah! My husband is basically the same way. One time we were carpooling with my parents and parked our car in a parking lot to go with them. Well, we were gone a good 4 hours and when we got back, the keys were in the ignition and the car was on. Lol! Don't worry, it just gives our spouses entertainment :)

Whoaaa! No way! I've never done that..I usually just leave the keys in the front door ...but that's the extent! The Lord was truly watching out for you!

Thank goodness everything was okay!! I once left my car door wide open in the Home Depot parking lot, just totally forgot to close it because I was so preoccupied!

How amazing! Your only a WHOLE year older than me :). I turn 22 this year. Of course, I am not married nor do I see that happening anytime soon.

That was an unnecessary tidbit of information there sorry girl.

Yes, I have done some pretty crazy things like that. Never have I done that but I mean it is on the same level and plane. lol I am just dense though. Not overly focused. Just... Dense. and Silly. A silly dense little thang thang. haha Sorry I'm typing under the influence of sleep deprivation. please excuse my dear aunt sally :).

I have days like this all the time. The other day I tried to get out of the car (still running, and in DRIVE mind you) and nearly rolled over my own foot. I get in modes where I'm so focused on all the different things that I have to do that I'm barely "present" in my own life. I have to remind myself to SLOW DOWN and do something even little, like Yoga or drinking tea to calm down and have a minute to myself! I'm definitely with you on this one!

Ah, I am so glad I'm not just crazy. Well, I might be.... Although this doesn't ever need to happen again!!!!

Girl you need a vacation like whoa!
But I'm the same way! I think too much about what needs to get done instead of focusing on whats going on right in front of me.
Take a breather love!

I think it's pretty awesome that you're that focused! I would take some down time too. :) If it makes you feel better, I have done stuff like that as well. I have asked people where my sunglasses or keys are, and sometimes, they are in my hands or right in front of me!

That's hilarious! Looks like someone needs a vacation.

i'm so glad nothing was stolen! Feels good to know you're surrounded by honest people :)

and i'll admit I've done that twice. YOWZA. i know. Once in high school (i locked my keys in the car while it was running...minutes before heading into the school for the practice graduation ceremony). And then I left my car running this past summer while I was shopping in Costco! haha! The only good thing from that is that the car was cool because the AC had been running. ;)

Eek! I hope you get a chance for a break soon!!

Girl, you're not crazy. I have totally done this before. I left my keys in the car & running while I went shopping once. For like a few hours. I totally thought the same things as you...I need a break. So I took one & it was glorious!

oh gracious... while i've never done that exactly, i have left the lights in my car on, running out of batteries. i have left things unlocked or "misplaced" things, only to find them right where i left them. like you, to me, they serve as signs to slow down, take a deep breath, and begin again. it sounds like a beach weekend might be just what you need!

I haven't done exactly that, but I've done a lot of things very similar! It has created a lot of jokes in the aftermath of it. Hang in there, girl!

the time I left my keys in the car and it was running was an day when it had snowed. I turned on the car to warm up and hopped out forgeting that the automatic locks were locked and then I shut the door before I went to scrape my windsheild. What a dummy! I had to wait 30 minutes for my mom to drive across town with my car key. It was sooo cold!

OH honey, that it crazy. We've all done something forgetful at some point. I went to put baby wipes in the fridge two days ago, and realized it when I passed the milk to put them next to it. When I've told my mom about these type of things she says I need to take Ginko Bilboa and sleep...

Hi Jennifer! Thanks for the comment and visit to cake & cotton today! I'm so glad to find you. what an amazing blog you have! And um. Totally locked my car while it was still RUNNING, keys in the ignition, with my infant daughter in the backseat. Not awesome. Had to call 911 since it was a hot day. So glad your doors were unlocked and all turned out okay :)

Thought I commented...don't see my awesome picture...so...

Girl, this is sad.

Sad that it took a co worker until 10:30 to tell you your car is running. Seriously, people need to be more on the ball here with helping you out.
Am I right or am I right!?

I was working on a poster for VBS and spelled the name of our church wrong. It should have read, 'FBC Leesburg' instead, it read, 'FBC Leburg' HA! Thankfully, someone pointed out that you can remove permanent marker with nail polish or rubbing alcohol. Blunder was fixed!

Oh, you poor thing! I'm glad nothing bad happened to your car (or valuables) during that time. It really does sound like you could take a day or two off. Hope this weekend is relaxing for you!
