Very Vintage

My love for all things vintage has been going on for quite some time. It all started in middle and high school, because I could never afford the latest styles. I remember when Tommy Hilfiger was the must-have, but it soon gave way to American Eagle and Ambercrombie. Now it's Anthro. As much as I love fashion, I also despise it. The fashion industry thrives off of materialism. It is fickle. As soon as you nail one style, the next new look emerges. Unfortunately, I am drawn to the ever-changing nature of the beast. However I am trying to simply be happy to have clothes to wear...no matter if they are "in" or not.

To be honest, I struggle with placing too much emphasis on what I wear. My friend Jhen mentioned to me the other day, "I can be happy with the same things in other countries, why not here?" Well, here it is so easy to get caught up into materialism. This is why I love vintage. Old things are already out of style.

Well, the other day I really felt the urge to shop...you know the "I have nothing to wear" feeling. Whenever that happens I try to combine what I have in different ways. This time I happened to find an old dress I bought for a costume party last year. It was see-through, so I never wore it. But guess who found a perfect slip for it under another dress? Yep, me. I threw on a Target cardigan I've had for years and voila. Classy and classic. Trying not to buy anything isn't easy, but I am learning to be happy with the same things for months...years possibly. After all, they are just things.

You look beautiful!! I think it's exciting to find something in your closet and find a way to make it new or different.

It feels so good to not worry about what you wear. At this point, we have a very low income so I'm kind of forced to just be content with what I have... it really is fulfilling! And a lot less stressful.
I love this dress!!! It makes it a million times better that you used what you already had! :)

Beautiful look! You bought that for a costume party?? It is so adorable. I'm trying the 30 for 30 remix challenge and am trying to remix what I already have. It's actually really fun and satisfying!

Your outfit is beauiful x I'va always had a love of vintage (ever since i was a little girl. As a Fashion Designer i currently work in retail (& i hate it) creatively so frustrated...everything is China & everything is about money. Praying & believing Jesus for something totally different where I can live my passions & talents. Have a blessed weekend!! xx

Don't fret - even wearing what you might think is the most horrible out of fashion thing in your closet is still more stylish than anything I own.

I love this! Beautiful outfit and such a good reminder that we don't need "things" to make us happy. We might not have as much as the next person, but we certainly have more than a lot of people in this world!

I love that outfit! Very classy. I've been trying the same thing with my own wardrobe- mixing and matching what I have to create multiple combinations and make the things I do own last a lot longer. It's actually pretty fun! :)

I cannot agree or be inspired more! First of all, I totally agree about the materialism thing. I'm finding, more & more, that it's things that I wear that make me smile & feel girly and comfortable that I love. But I'm also finding all sorts of ways to re-invent things. Isn't it so much more rewarding to thrift or put somehting together--even if it's just a slip and a see-through dress?
Thanks so much for the reminder! God bless you! :)

your gorgeous and I second every single word you wrote. As someone currently working in fashion again I am reminded everyday I work of just how materialistic Orange County and beyond is. We just WANT WANT WANT. AND I am one of them. Sometimes I get so lost in it all and then I just feel like poop because I realize that it isn't enough. When I'm not looking to my satisfaction in CHRIST ALONE I am always left feeling like crap. Your a blessings darling.

Hello there beautiful. Totally gorgeous outfit I must say. Bravo!!! I love how you are continuing to stay strong with your commitment. That's a tough one! But I think a good one b/c it forces us to be more creative, right? Totally more fun that way. And of course––impacting.

I think you have this natural beauty. So adding this dress that is stunningly simple, makes you radiate something special!

So hard this culture is. So hard.

what a perfect outfit! i can relate to a lot of what you said in this post. my biggest problem right now is my huge pile of vintage dresses & tops that need to be altered to turn from so-so to cute. can't find the time!

Dear beauty pie, The dress looks great and of course, yes they are just things...but that feeling you get...that is irreplaceable when you feel happy and confident when wearing said things, that is what its all about! Not the price or the latest & greatest! And your hair looks gorge! xox!

Gorgeous! I know what you mean about struggling with clothes. I can't believe what's in my closet -- so often, I find something I forget I ever owned. I think maybe that means I have too much. I would like to learn to be happy with less. I think this next year is going to be a good exercise in that....
